N&R: It's all about the lenses (Canon, Sigma & Zeiss)

Not much this week, except about lenses.



Canon

A new Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM lens has been leaked. From Canon Rumors:

  • Lens construction: 10 elements in 10 groups (one glass molded aspherical lens)
  • Number of aperture blades: seven (circular aperture)
  • Shortest shooting distance: 0.13 m (working distance 3 cm)
  • Maximum shooting magnification: 1x
  • Image stabilization: approximately 4 steps
  • Filter diameter: 49 mm (with lens hood ES - 27 installed )
  • Size: 55.8 x 69.2 mm
  • Weight: Approx. 190 g
  • Macro light mounted
  • Hybrid IS
  • Lead screw type STM
Also rumoured is new video centric firmware for the Canon 5D Mark IV, and the 5D Mark III gets 4K from Magic Lantern (not an April Fool's joke).

Sigma

The price for the new Sigma 100-400mm f5-6.3 lens has been announced as $800USD and is available for pre-order. Considerably cheaper and lighter than Nikon and Canon equivalents.

The first image of the Zeiss Batis 135mm f2.8 has been leaked. Specs are:
  • Minimum focus distance: 0.87 m (working distance: 0.74 m)
  • Maximum shooting magnification: 1: 5.3
  • In lens stabilization
  • Filter diameter: 67 mm
  • Maximum diameter: 98 mm
  • Focus ring diameter: 81 mm
  • Weight: 614 g
Price is expected to be similar to the existing Zeiss Batis 18mm f/1.8 ($1,500 USD).
